Course Introduction

Sustainability and exit management planning are critical components of responsible NGO programming, ensuring that development gains are preserved beyond the life cycle of donor-funded interventions and projects.

This course provides a structured approach to designing sustainability strategies that enable communities, institutions, and systems to continue functioning effectively after external support ends.

Participants will explore exit planning frameworks that balance accountability to donors with long-term community ownership, resilience, and self-reliance in development outcomes.

The training emphasizes strategic planning tools that help organizations transition smoothly from implementation to closure without disrupting service delivery or stakeholder relationships.

Special focus is placed on risk mitigation during project closure, including institutional handover, resource transition, and continuity of critical services.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement effective sustainability and exit strategies that safeguard development impact and organizational credibility.
