Course Introduction

Risk governance and enterprise resilience have become essential pillars for NGOs and development organizations operating in increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environments. This course equips participants with strategic and operational tools to identify, assess, and manage risks effectively while strengthening organizational resilience.

In today’s development sector, organizations face multidimensional risks including financial instability, operational disruptions, compliance failures, cybersecurity threats, and reputational vulnerabilities. Effective risk governance ensures that these risks are not only identified but systematically managed across all organizational levels.

This course introduces a structured approach to enterprise risk management tailored specifically for NGOs and development institutions. It integrates governance frameworks, internal controls, and resilience-building strategies to ensure long-term sustainability and accountability.

Participants will explore how risk governance is embedded within organizational leadership, strategic planning, and program implementation processes. The course emphasizes proactive rather than reactive risk management approaches.

Special focus is placed on enterprise resilience, including the ability of organizations to adapt, recover, and thrive amid shocks such as funding cuts, crises, political instability, and environmental disruptions affecting development operations.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement integrated risk governance systems that enhance organizational resilience, strengthen decision-making, and safeguard development impact.
