Course Introduction

Policy engagement and development influence are critical capabilities for NGOs seeking to shape enabling environments and drive systemic change. This course equips participants with the knowledge and strategic tools required to effectively engage with policy processes at local, national, and international levels.

In an increasingly interconnected development landscape, NGOs must move beyond service delivery to active policy advocacy and influence. This requires a deep understanding of governance systems, policy cycles, and the political economy that shapes development decision-making.

The course provides a structured framework for analyzing policy environments and identifying strategic entry points for influence. Participants will learn how to position their organizations as credible actors in policy dialogue and reform processes.

A strong emphasis is placed on evidence-based advocacy, coalition building, and stakeholder engagement. The course demonstrates how NGOs can translate programmatic experience into compelling policy recommendations and systemic reforms.

Participants will also explore how power dynamics, institutions, and governance structures shape policy outcomes, and how civil society can effectively navigate these dynamics to achieve meaningful impact.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement effective policy engagement strategies that enhance organizational influence and contribute to sustainable development outcomes.
