Course Introduction

Local economic development is a critical pathway for reducing poverty, strengthening resilience, and enabling communities to generate sustainable livelihoods. This course equips NGO practitioners with practical strategies for designing and implementing community-driven economic development initiatives.

Community enterprise development empowers local populations to create income-generating activities that are rooted in local resources, skills, and markets. Participants will learn how to facilitate enterprise creation that strengthens self-reliance and economic inclusion.

Many development programs fail to achieve lasting impact because they do not integrate economic sustainability into community interventions. This training addresses this gap by focusing on practical tools for building viable local enterprises and economic ecosystems.

NGOs play a key role in linking communities to markets, financial services, and value chains. This course strengthens participants’ ability to design interventions that connect grassroots producers to broader economic opportunities.

Local economic development requires collaboration between communities, governments, private sector actors, and development organizations. Participants will learn how to build partnerships that enhance enterprise growth and market access.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and manage community enterprise programs that stimulate inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods.
