Course Introduction

Institutional capacity is a critical determinant of an NGO’s ability to deliver sustainable results, attract funding, maintain stakeholder confidence, and adapt to changing development environments. Strong institutions possess effective governance systems, skilled personnel, sound financial management practices, and robust operational frameworks that support long-term organizational performance. This course provides participants with practical tools and methodologies for assessing organizational capacities and designing targeted interventions that strengthen institutional effectiveness and sustainability.

Development organizations operate in increasingly complex environments characterized by growing accountability demands, evolving donor expectations, technological advancements, and changing community needs. To remain effective and competitive, NGOs must regularly evaluate their internal systems, processes, structures, and competencies. Institutional capacity assessments help organizations identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks that affect performance and impact.
