Introduction

This training course provides participants with advanced knowledge of natural resource governance and the legal frameworks regulating extractive industries. It focuses on balancing resource development with environmental protection, community rights, transparency, and sustainable economic growth.

Participants will examine national and international laws governing mining, oil, gas, and other extractive sectors. The course highlights licensing regimes, contractual arrangements, regulatory oversight, and the role of institutions in managing natural resources responsibly.

Through practical case studies and policy analysis, participants will explore how governance failures and weak legal frameworks affect resource management. The program emphasizes accountability, anti-corruption measures, and revenue management mechanisms in extractive industries.

The course also addresses community engagement, land rights, benefit sharing, and social license to operate. Participants will learn how legal frameworks can prevent conflict, promote inclusive development, and protect affected communities.

Emerging issues such as energy transition policies, climate change regulation, ESG obligations, transparency initiatives, and responsible sourcing standards are integrated to reflect evolving global expectations in the extractive sector.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to interpret extractive industries law, assess governance risks, design compliance strategies, and contribute to transparent, accountable, and sustainable natural resource management.
