Introduction

Microfinance and inclusive financial services play a critical role in promoting economic empowerment, poverty reduction, and sustainable livelihoods. As these programs grow in scale and complexity, the need for robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems becomes paramount. This course is designed to equip participants with the practical tools, analytical frameworks, and methodologies to measure the performance, impact, and sustainability of microfinance and inclusive financial services initiatives.

Effective M&E enables organizations to track progress, ensure financial accountability, and assess how well services meet the needs of low-income populations. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of how to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to outreach, repayment performance, financial inclusion, and client well-being.

The course emphasizes evidence-based decision-making for program design and improvement. It integrates quantitative and qualitative methods for assessing both financial and social outcomes, helping practitioners balance profitability with developmental objectives. Participants will also learn to design logical frameworks, develop indicators, and apply results-based management principles in financial inclusion projects.

In addition, the training explores digital transformation in microfinance monitoring including mobile money analytics, fintech integration, and digital credit scoring that enable real-time data collection and reporting. Emphasis will be placed on using data visualization and dashboard tools to communicate results effectively to investors, donors, and policymakers.

Through case studies from microfinance institutions (MFIs), savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs), and fintech-based inclusion programs, participants will understand the diverse models and challenges in measuring success and sustainability in the financial inclusion landscape.

By the end of this course, participants will possess the skills to design and implement M&E systems that ensure financial programs remain impactful, transparent, and responsive to the evolving needs of underserved communities, thereby contributing to inclusive economic growth.
