Course Introduction

Mobile data collection tools have become essential in modern emergency response operations, enabling rapid, accurate, and real-time information gathering from affected populations and field teams. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how mobile technologies improve humanitarian decision-making.

The program explores a range of mobile data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare, and other digital survey tools. Participants will learn how these systems are designed, deployed, and managed in disaster and crisis environments.

A strong emphasis is placed on improving data quality, speed, and reliability during emergency assessments. Participants will understand how mobile tools reduce delays in information flow and enhance coordination between field teams and decision-makers.

The course also examines connectivity challenges, offline data collection capabilities, device management, and field deployment strategies. These are critical in environments where infrastructure is damaged or completely unavailable during emergencies.

Participants will engage with practical case studies demonstrating how mobile data collection tools have been used in disaster response, disease outbreaks, displacement settings, and rapid humanitarian assessments across different contexts.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the skills to design, deploy, and manage mobile data collection systems that strengthen emergency preparedness, response efficiency, and humanitarian accountability.
