Course Introduction

Mobile data collection is transforming agricultural fieldwork by enabling real-time data capture, analysis, and decision-making. This course provides participants with practical knowledge and skills to leverage mobile devices, apps, and cloud platforms for agricultural monitoring and research.

Participants will explore how digital tools improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in data gathering for crop management, soil assessment, pest and disease monitoring, and farm productivity analysis. Emphasis is placed on integrating mobile data collection into field workflows.

The course introduces popular mobile data collection platforms, including ODK, KoBoToolbox, Survey123, and mobile GIS applications. Participants will gain hands-on experience designing surveys, capturing field data, and managing datasets.

Data quality, validation, and security are key components of training. Learners will understand methods for error reduction, backup, and secure sharing of field data to maintain integrity and reliability for analysis.

Integration with analytics and decision-support systems is emphasized. Participants will learn how to visualize and analyze data in real-time, generate reports, and use insights to guide farm management and policy decisions.

By the end of the course, participants will be capable of deploying mobile data collection tools, ensuring high-quality data capture, and using real-time information to improve agricultural productivity, sustainability, and research outcomes.
