Introduction

Global migration and displacement crises are among the most pressing humanitarian challenges of our time. This course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to protect refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and migrants, while designing sustainable, context-specific solutions.

Participants will explore international frameworks for refugee protection, including the 1951 Refugee Convention, regional instruments, and humanitarian law. Emphasis is placed on understanding legal, social, and economic dimensions of migration and displacement.

The course provides practical guidance on assessing protection needs, identifying vulnerabilities, and designing programs that safeguard human rights while promoting self-reliance and dignity for affected populations. Participants will learn to implement protection interventions across sectors, including education, health, and livelihoods.

Durable solutions are critical for long-term stability. Participants will gain expertise in designing interventions that support voluntary repatriation, local integration, and resettlement. Strategies for housing, education, livelihoods, and social cohesion will be explored in detail.

Multi-stakeholder coordination is central to effective refugee and migration programming. The course emphasizes engagement with governments, UN agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations to harmonize interventions and maximize impact.

Through case studies, scenario-based exercises, and simulation projects, participants will develop actionable skills to lead migration and refugee protection programs. Graduates will be capable of promoting durable solutions while ensuring protection, resilience, and socio-economic inclusion for displaced populations.
