Introduction
Crisis, conflict, and fragility significantly disrupt social systems, livelihoods, and access to essential services, placing populations at heightened risk of psychological distress. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of mental health needs in humanitarian, conflict-affected, and fragile state contexts.
Participants will explore how armed conflict, political instability, forced displacement, and natural disasters contribute to trauma, anxiety, depression, and psychosocial vulnerability. The course integrates global frameworks with context-specific approaches to mental health and psychosocial support.
The course emphasizes culturally sensitive and rights-based mental health responses, recognizing the importance of local knowledge, community resilience, and traditional coping mechanisms. Participants will learn to design inclusive interventions tailored to diverse populations and fragile systems.
A strong focus is placed on humanitarian coordination, multi-sectoral collaboration, and the integration of mental health into emergency response and recovery programming. Participants will gain insights into working within constrained, insecure, and resource-limited environments.
Participants will examine evidence-based interventions for individuals and communities affected by violence, displacement, and prolonged crisis. Special attention is given to vulnerable groups, including women, children, survivors of violence, and frontline responders.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with practical skills to assess needs, implement effective mental health and psychosocial support programs, and strengthen systems for sustainable mental health care in crisis, conflict, and fragile settings.
