Course Introduction
Effective communication and advocacy are central to improving mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and influencing positive change at individual, organizational, and societal levels. This Mental Health Communication and Advocacy Training Course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to communicate mental health issues clearly, ethically, and impactfully.
The course explores mental health communication as both a technical and relational practice. Participants will learn how language, framing, and messaging shape perceptions of mental health, influence attitudes, and determine whether individuals feel supported, misunderstood, or excluded from care and services.
Participants will examine the role of advocacy in advancing mental health rights, access to services, and inclusive policies. The training highlights how evidence-based communication strategies can mobilize communities, influence decision-makers, and promote systemic improvements in mental health systems.
Practical communication skills are emphasized throughout the course, including public speaking, media engagement, storytelling, and community dialogue. Participants will learn to tailor messages for diverse audiences while maintaining accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and ethical responsibility.
Emerging issues such as digital advocacy, social media campaigns, misinformation, and online stigma are explored in depth. The course also addresses crisis communication, safeguarding considerations, and the ethical use of personal narratives in mental health advocacy.
By the end of the course, participants will be empowered to design and implement effective mental health communication and advocacy initiatives. Graduates will be equipped to amplify mental health voices, influence policy and practice, and contribute to more informed, compassionate, and inclusive societies.
