Course Introduction
Mental health and social protection are intrinsically linked, with robust systems improving individual wellbeing, economic stability, and social inclusion. This Mental Health and Social Protection Systems Training Course equips participants with practical knowledge to integrate mental health services into social protection frameworks effectively.
The course explores how social protection programs, including health insurance, disability support, income assistance, and community services, can mitigate psychosocial stress and enhance mental wellbeing. Participants will understand system-level design, policy implications, and cross-sector collaboration for impactful interventions.
Participants will examine vulnerabilities such as poverty, unemployment, disability, trauma, and discrimination that exacerbate mental health risks. The training emphasizes identifying populations at risk and designing protective measures to enhance resilience, equity, and access to support services.
Practical strategies are central to the training, including screening, referral mechanisms, service integration, and multi-sector collaboration. Participants will gain skills to link mental health programs with social protection systems while ensuring ethical, culturally sensitive, and person-centered approaches.
Emerging challenges such as pandemic recovery, climate-related shocks, digital service delivery, and policy reforms are explored. The course highlights the importance of evidence-based decision-making, monitoring, and continuous adaptation to ensure effective social protection and mental health outcomes.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design, implement, and evaluate social protection programs that support mental health. Graduates will be capable of promoting inclusive, resilient, and sustainable systems that protect vulnerable populations and strengthen societal wellbeing.
