Introduction
Men’s mental health is often under-recognized due to cultural norms, social stigma, and expectations of strength. This course explores the unique psychological challenges men face, equipping professionals with skills to address mental health issues while challenging societal barriers.
Participants will examine the prevalence of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide among men. The course emphasizes understanding risk factors, early warning signs, and gender-specific manifestations of mental health conditions, ensuring accurate assessment and intervention.
The course highlights the role of social stigma in preventing men from seeking help. Participants will learn strategies to reduce stigma, encourage help-seeking behavior, and create safe spaces where men feel comfortable accessing mental health services.
Special attention is given to intersectional factors such as age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and cultural background. The course addresses how these dimensions influence men’s mental health and informs culturally competent and inclusive interventions.
Participants will explore individual, organizational, and community-level strategies for promoting mental health among men. This includes workplace wellness programs, awareness campaigns, peer support initiatives, and policy development to reduce barriers and promote equity.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to assess, design, and implement programs that improve men’s mental health, reduce stigma, and foster resilience, wellbeing, and healthy coping strategies in diverse populations.
