Introduction

Urban areas are expanding rapidly, demanding smarter, more sustainable, and inclusive transport and infrastructure systems. The M&E for Sustainable Urban Transport and Infrastructure Systems Training Course equips participants with the analytical, technical, and strategic tools needed to monitor, evaluate, and optimize performance in complex urban environments. It focuses on developing evidence-based evaluation frameworks that enhance mobility, reduce emissions, and support resilient city planning.

As cities evolve, effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems are essential for assessing the performance, efficiency, and impact of infrastructure investments. This course provides an in-depth understanding of how to apply M&E principles to urban transport networks, smart mobility solutions, and infrastructure systems that contribute to sustainability and economic growth. Participants will gain insights into data-driven approaches to evaluate multimodal transport systems, green infrastructure, and public service delivery.

Through a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, participants will learn how to design, implement, and manage M&E frameworks that align with national and international sustainability goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and urban resilience strategies. Emphasis is placed on integrated data systems, GIS mapping, and performance indicators that help decision-makers assess the impact of urban development projects.

The course explores the interplay between mobility, infrastructure, and environment, recognizing that sustainable urban transport and infrastructure are central to achieving equitable, low-carbon, and inclusive growth. Participants will analyze how evaluation can drive transformation toward smarter cities, cleaner transport modes, and sustainable infrastructure investments.

With global challenges such as urban congestion, air pollution, and climate vulnerability, the ability to measure and learn from interventions is more critical than ever. This training provides strategies to assess environmental, economic, and social outcomes of urban transport projects, promoting accountability and adaptive management practices.

By the end of the course, participants will have mastered techniques to evaluate project effectiveness, sustainability, and innovation in urban transport and infrastructure systems empowering them to design data-driven interventions that enhance urban resilience and mobility.
