Course Introduction

Living Evidence Systems and Continuous Research Synthesis Training Course provides a comprehensive framework for designing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating evidence systems that are continuously updated as new research becomes available. The course moves beyond static evidence reviews by introducing dynamic approaches for monitoring emerging literature, identifying relevant new findings, updating syntheses, and maintaining current evidence resources for research, policy, clinical, programme, and strategic decision-making.

The course examines the foundations of living evidence, continuous evidence surveillance, living systematic reviews, evidence monitoring, automated literature discovery, research alerts, evidence updating, and dynamic synthesis workflows. Participants learn how to establish structured processes for identifying new studies, determining their relevance, assessing methodological quality, extracting important findings, and integrating validated evidence into existing knowledge products without unnecessarily repeating the entire review process.

Participants will explore the technical and methodological infrastructure required to build sustainable living evidence systems. Topics include research question management, search strategy design, database surveillance, screening workflows, evidence repositories, version control, data extraction, quality appraisal, update triggers, synthesis management, and transparent reporting. The training emphasizes reproducibility and traceability so that users can understand what evidence was added, what changed, when changes occurred, and how updates affected previous conclusions.

Artificial intelligence and advanced research technologies form an important component of the programme. Participants examine AI-assisted literature surveillance, semantic search, automated relevance ranking, machine-assisted screening, natural language processing, evidence classification, research alerts, knowledge graphs, and automated update workflows. The course also addresses the limitations of these technologies, including hallucinations, false positives, false negatives, algorithmic bias, incomplete retrieval, changing models, and the need for human verification and methodological oversight.

The programme addresses emerging issues affecting continuous evidence synthesis, including preprints, open science, research retractions, corrections, publication bias, rapidly changing scientific fields, evidence conflicts, research integrity, reproducibility, data provenance, and responsible AI. Participants learn how living evidence systems can respond to changes in the research environment while maintaining methodological consistency, transparent decision rules, and appropriate documentation of uncertainty and evidence quality.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and manage living evidence workflows that continuously monitor research, identify important new evidence, trigger appropriate updates, maintain versioned syntheses, and communicate changes effectively. The skills developed can support organizations that require current evidence for policy development, research planning, programme implementation, funding decisions, scientific monitoring, and other environments where decisions depend on rapidly evolving knowledge.
