Course Introduction

Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) is a global concept aimed at maintaining or improving the quantity and quality of land resources necessary to support ecosystem functions and services. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of LDN principles and their application in sustainable land management and environmental governance.

Increasing land degradation driven by unsustainable agriculture, deforestation, mining, and climate change is reducing productive land globally. This course examines the drivers, impacts, and mitigation strategies necessary to achieve land degradation neutrality at local, national, and global levels.

Participants will explore scientific, policy, and practical approaches to restoring degraded land while preventing further loss of productive ecosystems. The course integrates environmental science, land-use planning, and sustainability frameworks for effective implementation.

The course also highlights the importance of aligning LDN with global agendas such as the Sustainable Development Goals, climate action frameworks, and biodiversity conservation targets. It emphasizes integrated approaches for land restoration and sustainable development.
