Course Introduction

The Investment Project Financial Due Diligence Training Course provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating the financial strength, commercial viability, risks, assumptions, and investment readiness of projects before capital is committed. The programme equips participants with practical techniques for examining financial information, project economics, funding structures, forecasts, cash flows, contracts, assumptions, and financial risks that may materially influence investment outcomes.

The course examines the complete financial due diligence process from initial investment screening through detailed financial analysis, transaction evaluation, funding assessment, risk identification, valuation considerations, and final reporting. Participants will learn how to assess the quality and reliability of historical financial information, investigate the assumptions supporting financial projections, analyse project cash flows, and identify inconsistencies or weaknesses that could affect investment decisions.

Participants will explore the financial characteristics of infrastructure, real estate, energy, manufacturing, technology, public-private partnership, expansion, acquisition, and other investment projects. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding revenue models, operating costs, capital expenditure, working capital, financing arrangements, debt service, taxation, project timelines, contractual commitments, and the relationship between operational assumptions and projected financial performance.

The programme develops practical skills for challenging management forecasts and determining whether projected project economics are supported by credible evidence. Participants will examine sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis, break-even analysis, stress testing, cash-flow modelling, financial ratios, debt capacity, liquidity requirements, and key investment risks. The course also addresses how changes in interest rates, inflation, foreign exchange, commodity prices, regulatory conditions, construction costs, demand, and operating assumptions can influence project viability.

Emerging issues are integrated into the programme, including artificial intelligence and technology-enabled projects, renewable energy investments, climate-related financial risks, sustainability-linked financing, digital infrastructure, supply-chain disruption, geopolitical uncertainty, ESG considerations, and evolving regulatory expectations. Participants will learn how these factors can affect financial assumptions, funding requirements, risk profiles, project costs, and long-term cash-flow sustainability.

By completing the programme, participants will be able to conduct structured financial due diligence on investment projects and communicate material findings to investors, lenders, boards, investment committees, management teams, and other stakeholders. The course strengthens participants' ability to identify financial risks before capital deployment, challenge unsupported assumptions, assess funding requirements, quantify potential exposures, and produce decision-useful due diligence reports.
