Course Introduction

Inventory management for perishable goods is a highly specialized discipline that ensures temperature-sensitive, time-sensitive, and shelf-life-limited products are handled efficiently throughout the supply chain. Industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and hospitality depend heavily on accurate inventory control to reduce spoilage and maintain product quality.

Unlike standard inventory systems, perishable goods require strict adherence to storage conditions, expiry tracking, and fast-moving replenishment cycles. This course provides structured methodologies for managing short shelf-life products while minimizing waste and maximizing availability.

Participants will explore cold chain management, FIFO/FEFO principles, demand forecasting for perishables, expiry date tracking systems, and real-time monitoring technologies. The course emphasizes maintaining product integrity from procurement to final consumption.

A strong focus is placed on integrating digital inventory systems with temperature monitoring tools, ERP platforms, and warehouse management systems. Participants will learn how technology ensures traceability, reduces losses, and improves compliance in perishable goods operations.

The course also addresses operational challenges such as demand volatility, seasonal fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, storage constraints, and regulatory requirements. Participants will develop strategies for maintaining efficiency in highly time-sensitive environments.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement effective inventory management systems for perishable goods that reduce waste, improve freshness, ensure compliance, and optimize supply chain performance.
