Introduction

Effective inventory and warehouse management is the backbone of any successful supply chain. This course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to manage inventory efficiently, streamline storage operations, and optimize warehouse performance.

Warehouse is essential for an industrial unit. It is the depository of all materials required by the industrial unit and supplies materials as and when required. Inventory Control and Warehouse Management is critical in operations as inventory is a current asset to a firm. This course focuses on optimizing the development, management and maintenance of strategies of inventory control and warehouse management. It enables professionals to gain command of the key elements of a successful operation and provides a guide to complementing warehousing activities with prudent inventory control management techniques.

Throughout the course, participants will explore modern principles, tools, and techniques used in inventory planning, stock control, and the organization of stores and warehouse facilities. Emphasis will be placed on cost control, accuracy, space utilization, risk reduction, and the integration of technology in inventory and warehouse operations.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

·       Understand the core principles and functions of inventory control, stores operations, and warehouse management within the broader supply chain framework.

·       Classify and manage different types of inventory using industry-standard techniques such as ABC, VED, and FSN analysis for effective stock categorization and control.

·       Implement appropriate stock control systems and replenishment methods including Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), Reorder Point (ROP), and safety stock calculations.

·       Design and manage efficient warehouse layouts and storage systems to optimize space utilization, workflow, and material handling.

·       Apply best practices in stores operations, including receiving, inspection, issuing, binning, stock verification, and documentation.

·       Utilize inventory management technologies and tools such as barcode systems, RFID, and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for real-time stock tracking and accuracy.

·       Conduct inventory audits and reconciliations to identify and resolve stock discrepancies and ensure data integrity.

·       Ensure compliance with safety, security, and ISO quality standards in warehouse and stores management practices.

·       Evaluate and improve inventory and warehouse performance using relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and continuous improvement methods such as 5S and Lean.

·       Make informed decisions on surplus, obsolete, and slow-moving stock, including reconditioning, disposal, and stock rationalization strategies.
