Course Introduction

Intellectual property has become a central pillar of competitiveness, innovation, and national economic development in the knowledge-driven global economy. This training course is designed to help senior leaders understand how intellectual property assets can be strategically leveraged to create value, manage risk, and support long-term institutional and commercial objectives.

Business executives and public-sector leaders increasingly face complex decisions related to patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and data ownership. This course provides a structured understanding of how IP intersects with innovation policy, investment decisions, digital transformation, and international trade, enabling leaders to make informed and defensible strategic choices.

The programme moves beyond legal theory to focus on strategic application. Participants will examine how organizations identify, protect, commercialize, and enforce intellectual property in ways that align with business models, public policy goals, and institutional mandates. Practical case studies illustrate both successful IP strategies and costly failures.

Special attention is given to intellectual property governance within organizations and governments. Participants will explore how IP strategy supports research and development, public–private partnerships, technology transfer, and procurement processes, particularly in emerging and innovation-driven sectors.

The course also addresses the global and geopolitical dimensions of intellectual property. Leaders will gain insights into international IP regimes, cross-border enforcement challenges, licensing negotiations, and the role of IP in economic diplomacy and development strategies.

By the end of the programme, participants will be equipped with a strategic mindset and practical frameworks to integrate intellectual property into leadership decision-making, innovation planning, and institutional performance management.
