Course Introduction

Intellectual property is no longer a passive legal asset but a strategic driver of revenue generation, innovation diffusion, and competitive advantage. This training course equips participants with the practical and strategic knowledge required to license, commercialize, and value intellectual property in both public and private sector contexts.

Organizations often struggle to convert patents, trademarks, copyrights, and know-how into measurable financial and socio-economic returns. This course addresses that gap by focusing on structured approaches to IP commercialization, market readiness, and sustainable value extraction across diverse industries and innovation ecosystems.

Participants will gain insights into the full IP commercialization lifecycle, from identifying commercially viable IP assets to structuring licensing agreements, spin-offs, and collaborative ventures. The programme emphasizes decision-making frameworks that align IP assets with business models, institutional mandates, and market opportunities.

The course also explores intellectual property valuation as a critical tool for negotiations, investment decisions, mergers, acquisitions, and public–private partnerships. Participants will learn how valuation methodologies inform pricing, risk assessment, and strategic positioning.

Emerging trends such as open innovation, platform economies, data-driven assets, and digital technologies are examined to ensure participants understand how commercialization models are evolving in response to technological and regulatory change.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to confidently engage in IP licensing negotiations, assess commercialization options, support investment decisions, and integrate IP valuation into organizational strategy and innovation governance.
