Introduction

Water is a vital resource that underpins social, economic, and environmental well-being. However, growing populations, climate change, urbanization, and competing demands are putting increasing pressure on water systems around the world. The Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Course provides a comprehensive framework for managing water resources in a coordinated and sustainable manner. This course is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to address complex water management challenges through integrated and inclusive approaches.

IWRM emphasizes the coordinated development and management of water, land, and related resources to maximize economic and social welfare without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems. This course explores the principles of integration across sectors, governance levels, and stakeholder groups. Participants will examine water policies, institutional frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and cross-sectoral planning to promote equitable and efficient water use.

Through a mix of theoretical foundations and real-world case studies, the course covers key areas such as water governance, river basin management, climate resilience, transboundary water cooperation, and financing mechanisms. It also addresses tools and methodologies for planning, monitoring, and evaluating integrated water management strategies. Emphasis is placed on participatory approaches that empower local communities, enhance institutional coordination, and support sustainable development goals (SDGs).

By the end of the course, participants will have a strong understanding of the IWRM framework and how to apply it in diverse contexts. The course is ideal for water resource managers, environmental planners, policy makers, engineers, development practitioners, and others engaged in water-related sectors who are looking to promote sustainable, equitable, and resilient water management solutions.

Who should Attend?

This course is ideal for:

·       Water Resource Managers and Planners working in government agencies, utilities, and development organizations.

·       Environmental and Natural Resource Professionals responsible for land, watershed, and ecosystem management.

·       Policy Makers and Government Officials involved in water governance, regulation, and sustainable development planning.

·       Engineers and Technical Experts engaged in water supply, irrigation, sanitation, and hydrological infrastructure projects.

·       NGO and Civil Society Representatives working on community-based water management, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.

·       Professionals from Donor Agencies and International Organizations supporting water sector programs and capacity development initiatives.
