Course Introduction

The Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus has become a central framework for addressing the root causes of fragility, conflict, and recurrent crises. This course provides participants with a deep understanding of how to integrate humanitarian response, long-term development, and peacebuilding in a coherent and sustainable way.

The program explores how traditional silos between emergency response, development programming, and peacebuilding can be bridged through coordinated planning and implementation. Participants will learn how to design interventions that simultaneously address immediate needs and long-term structural drivers of vulnerability.

A strong emphasis is placed on systems thinking and context analysis, enabling participants to understand complex interactions between conflict dynamics, poverty, governance, and environmental stressors. The course highlights how these factors shape programming decisions in fragile settings.

Participants will also examine coordination mechanisms among humanitarian agencies, development actors, governments, and peacebuilding institutions. This includes understanding joint planning frameworks, collective outcomes, and multi-stakeholder collaboration models.

The course introduces practical tools such as conflict sensitivity analysis, integrated planning frameworks, and resilience-based programming approaches. These tools help practitioners design interventions that are adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement integrated HDP Nexus programs that reduce vulnerability, strengthen resilience, and contribute to sustainable peace and development outcomes.

Duration
