Course Introduction

The Insurance Accounting and Financial Auditing Training Course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and auditing within insurance companies and other insurance-related organizations. The program examines the financial structure of insurers and equips participants with the knowledge required to evaluate premium income, claims, technical provisions, reinsurance, investments, expenses, assets, liabilities, and financial performance.

Participants will develop a structured understanding of insurance accounting processes and how they influence the accuracy, completeness, reliability, and presentation of financial information. The course addresses the accounting treatment of insurance contracts, premium transactions, claims, acquisition costs, reserves, reinsurance arrangements, investment income, policyholder obligations, and other insurance-specific financial transactions.

The program places significant emphasis on financial auditing techniques applicable to life, general, health, and composite insurance businesses. Participants will learn how to assess financial controls, test insurance transactions, verify supporting documentation, evaluate estimates and provisions, examine claims liabilities, review reconciliations, and identify financial reporting risks that may affect the reliability of an insurer's financial statements.

A strong focus is also placed on insurance risk, actuarial estimates, technical provisions, solvency, capital adequacy, investment portfolios, reinsurance recoverables, and liquidity. Participants will explore how auditors can assess the governance and controls surrounding significant estimates and judgments while maintaining appropriate professional skepticism when reviewing complex insurance balances and financial information.

The course incorporates modern developments affecting insurance accounting and financial auditing, including digital insurance platforms, automated claims processing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, insurtech, climate-related risks, cyber risks, outsourcing, third-party service providers, and evolving regulatory expectations. These topics help participants understand how technological and market changes are reshaping insurance financial reporting and audit assurance.

Through practical case studies, audit planning exercises, accounting analysis, financial statement review, claims testing, reserve assessment, control evaluation, reconciliation procedures, and audit reporting exercises, participants will strengthen their ability to identify financial risks and develop appropriate audit responses. The course is designed to provide practical capabilities that can be applied directly within insurance finance, accounting, internal audit, external audit, risk, compliance, and regulatory functions.
