Introduction

The Industrial Symbiosis and Eco-Industrial Parks Development Training Course is designed to build the technical and strategic capacity of professionals involved in sustainable industrialization, circular economy integration, and resource-efficient production. As global industries face increasing pressure to reduce environmental impact while remaining competitive, industrial symbiosis and eco-industrial park (EIP) development present a practical model for achieving both economic and ecological sustainability.

This course introduces participants to the core principles of industrial symbiosis, the collaborative exchange of materials, energy, water, and by-products between companies to create shared value and minimize waste. Participants will explore real-world applications of EIPs that promote cleaner production, foster innovation, and strengthen local economies through collective resource optimization.

Through in-depth analysis of successful global case studies, participants will learn how to identify synergies among industries, design shared infrastructure, and establish regulatory and policy frameworks that enable eco-industrial development. The training emphasizes the integration of sustainability principles into industrial planning, emphasizing long-term environmental, economic, and social benefits.

The program also delves into the role of technology, digitalization, and innovation in driving industrial symbiosis. Participants will examine how emerging technologies such as GIS, material flow analysis, and industrial metabolism modeling support data-driven decision-making and enhance resource recovery systems.

Policy instruments, financial mechanisms, and stakeholder collaboration will be explored to ensure that EIPs are inclusive, resilient, and scalable. The course provides participants with tools to develop governance structures that encourage participation from industries, governments, and communities.

By the end of the training, participants will be equipped to initiate, implement, and manage eco-industrial park projects that align with national green growth strategies, the circular economy, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This practical, forward-looking course empowers industries to transition toward low-carbon, zero-waste, and regenerative production systems.
