Course Introduction
Industrial Control Systems and Operational Technology environments form the backbone of critical infrastructure sectors including energy, manufacturing, transportation, utilities, mining, oil and gas, water treatment, and industrial production facilities. The increasing convergence between information technology and operational technology environments has improved efficiency and connectivity but has simultaneously introduced new cybersecurity vulnerabilities and operational risks. This course provides participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills required to secure industrial environments against evolving cyber threats while maintaining operational reliability and safety.
Cyberattacks targeting industrial environments have become more sophisticated, disruptive, and financially damaging in recent years. Threat actors increasingly target supervisory control and data acquisition systems, programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, and industrial communication protocols to disrupt operations, manipulate processes, or compromise safety mechanisms. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of industrial threat landscapes and the defensive measures necessary to protect critical operational assets and infrastructure.
Unlike traditional information technology environments, industrial systems prioritize availability, safety, and operational continuity over confidentiality alone. Security strategies must therefore balance cybersecurity requirements with production demands, process reliability, equipment longevity, and regulatory obligations. This course explores the unique characteristics of industrial environments and provides practical approaches for implementing effective security controls without disrupting operational processes or critical services.
Digital transformation initiatives, industrial internet of things technologies, cloud connectivity, predictive maintenance systems, and remote operational management are reshaping industrial operations globally. While these technologies create opportunities for efficiency and automation, they also expand attack surfaces and introduce complex cyber risks. Participants will examine the implications of emerging technologies and understand how organizations can securely embrace innovation while maintaining resilience and operational integrity.
Regulatory expectations and industry standards relating to critical infrastructure protection continue to evolve globally. Organizations operating industrial environments must demonstrate effective governance, risk management, incident response capabilities, and supply chain security controls. This course examines leading international frameworks, compliance requirements, and governance approaches that support operational resilience and regulatory preparedness across industrial sectors.
Through case studies, attack simulations, practical exercises, industrial scenarios, and real-world examples, participants will strengthen both strategic and technical competencies required for protecting operational technology environments. Upon completion, attendees will possess the expertise needed to improve industrial cybersecurity maturity, strengthen resilience, reduce operational risks, and support secure digital transformation initiatives within critical infrastructure environments.
