Course Introduction

Indigenous peoples’ rights and land law are crucial for protecting cultural heritage, natural resources, and community livelihoods. Understanding the legal frameworks that safeguard these rights ensures equitable access, recognition, and sustainable management of land and resources.

The Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and Land Law Training Course equips participants with comprehensive knowledge of international, regional, and national legal frameworks protecting indigenous communities. It emphasizes the intersection of human rights, land tenure, and sustainable resource governance.

Participants will examine the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), regional instruments, national constitutions, and customary law systems. The course explores strategies to reconcile statutory and customary laws in managing indigenous lands.

Emerging issues such as climate change impacts, land tenure conflicts, resource extraction, corporate responsibility, and technological mapping tools are addressed. Participants will learn practical solutions for safeguarding rights while promoting sustainable development.

The course integrates theory, case studies, and practical exercises to develop skills in policy analysis, legal advocacy, and dispute resolution. Participants will acquire the capacity to advise governments, NGOs, and community organizations effectively.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to design and implement policies, advocate for indigenous rights, manage land disputes, and ensure legal compliance in accordance with human rights and environmental standards.
