Course Introduction

The IFRS 15 Revenue Contracts Audit Training Course provides a practical framework for auditing revenue arising from contracts with customers and evaluating whether revenue transactions are appropriately identified, measured, recognized, presented, and disclosed. The course is designed for external auditors, internal auditors, accountants, finance professionals, revenue specialists, and assurance practitioners who need to address the complexities and risks associated with revenue contracts.

The program explores the complete revenue contract lifecycle, beginning with contract identification and continuing through the identification of performance obligations, determination of the transaction price, allocation of consideration, recognition of revenue, contract modifications, variable consideration, and financial statement disclosures. Participants will learn how to translate contractual terms into appropriate audit procedures and obtain sufficient and appropriate audit evidence.

Particular attention is given to the five-step revenue recognition framework and the areas requiring significant judgment. Participants will examine distinct goods and services, principal-versus-agent considerations, variable consideration, significant financing components, non-refundable fees, warranties, rights of return, customer options, contract assets, contract liabilities, and other arrangements that can create complex revenue recognition risks.

The course emphasizes substantive auditing and internal control evaluation across the revenue cycle. Participants will learn how to test contracts, invoices, delivery records, customer acceptance evidence, billing data, receipts, credit notes, rebates, refunds, journal entries, and revenue reconciliations while addressing completeness, occurrence, accuracy, cut-off, classification, presentation, and disclosure assertions.

Fraud and manipulation risks are integrated throughout the course, including premature revenue recognition, fictitious sales, channel stuffing, side agreements, inappropriate contract modifications, concealed concessions, unsupported estimates, improper principal-agent conclusions, and manipulation of period-end transactions. Data analytics and automated testing techniques are used to identify unusual revenue patterns, duplicate transactions, abnormal adjustments, unusual credit notes, and high-risk contracts.

The course also addresses modern revenue environments involving ERP systems, subscription models, digital platforms, e-commerce, long-term service arrangements, automated billing, artificial intelligence, and data-driven revenue processes. Through practical case studies, participants will develop audit programs, perform contract-based testing, evaluate evidence, identify control weaknesses, document judgments, and formulate audit findings and recommendations.
