Course Introduction

The increasing frequency of global health emergencies highlights the critical role of ICT in strengthening epidemic preparedness and response. This course equips participants with the knowledge and tools to leverage ICT for timely and effective public health surveillance.

Participants will learn how ICT platforms enhance disease detection, reporting, and response systems, ensuring rapid identification and containment of outbreaks. Emphasis is placed on integrating mobile data, digital health records, and real-time analytics for effective epidemic control.

The program provides practical insights into how ICT improves collaboration across governments, health institutions, and humanitarian organizations. Learners will examine global case studies demonstrating how digital systems save lives during public health crises.

Special attention is given to emerging tools such as AI-driven predictive modeling, GIS mapping, and IoT-enabled monitoring devices. These innovations are reshaping the capacity to detect, track, and mitigate disease outbreaks across diverse contexts.

The course also explores challenges in implementing ICT solutions, such as data privacy, digital ethics, and disparities in access. It emphasizes policies, governance, and strategies to ensure responsible deployment of ICT in public health.

By the end of the training, participants will gain the skills to design, manage, and evaluate ICT-enabled surveillance systems that improve epidemic preparedness, enhance early warning capabilities, and contribute to stronger health security globally.
