Course Introduction

Hydrological modeling is a fundamental scientific approach used to simulate the movement, distribution, and quality of water within natural and built environments. This course introduces participants to the theoretical foundations and practical applications of hydrological models in water resource analysis and management.

With increasing water scarcity, climate variability, and competing demands across sectors, hydrological modeling has become essential for informed decision-making. Participants will learn how models support flood forecasting, drought assessment, watershed planning, and sustainable water allocation strategies.

The course integrates hydrology, environmental science, and computational modeling to help learners understand how rainfall, runoff, infiltration, evaporation, and groundwater processes interact within complex hydrological systems across different landscapes.

Participants will gain hands-on exposure to widely used hydrological modeling tools and datasets, enabling them to simulate real-world water systems and interpret outputs for planning, policy development, and environmental management applications.

Special emphasis is placed on data-driven modeling approaches, calibration, validation, and uncertainty analysis to ensure that participants can critically evaluate model reliability and applicability in different water resource contexts.
