Course Introduction
The Humanitarian WASH and Climate Resilience Course is a specialized capacity-building program designed to strengthen knowledge and practical skills in delivering safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services in emergency and climate-affected contexts. It focuses on building resilient WASH systems capable of withstanding climate shocks, disasters, and humanitarian crises.
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of humanitarian WASH principles, including emergency response planning, rapid deployment of water systems, and sanitation interventions in fragile and disaster-prone environments. Participants will learn how to design and implement life-saving WASH services in camps, settlements, and vulnerable communities.
The program further explores the intersection between climate change and water, sanitation, and hygiene systems. It examines how droughts, floods, and extreme weather events impact WASH infrastructure and service delivery, and how adaptive strategies can strengthen resilience and continuity of essential services under changing climate conditions.
Special emphasis is placed on public health, disease prevention, and outbreak control through effective WASH interventions. Participants will gain insights into cholera prevention, safe water supply systems, sanitation hygiene promotion, and environmental health risk management in humanitarian settings.
The course also addresses coordination mechanisms among humanitarian agencies, governments, NGOs, and local actors in WASH emergency response. It highlights Sphere Standards, humanitarian principles, and global frameworks guiding effective and accountable WASH interventions in crisis situations.
