Introduction

Humanitarian and Post-Crisis Recovery Project Planning and Management is a comprehensive course designed to strengthen the capacity of professionals involved in humanitarian interventions, recovery efforts, and post-crisis reconstruction. In today’s increasingly complex global landscape, effective recovery planning requires technical expertise, strategic coordination, and resilience-based approaches that align with humanitarian principles and long-term development objectives. This course provides the critical frameworks and skills needed to manage and implement successful humanitarian and recovery projects in diverse crisis contexts.

Participants will explore the entire project cycle in humanitarian and post-crisis environments from needs assessment and rapid response planning to recovery and resilience programming. The course emphasizes evidence-based decision-making, inclusive stakeholder engagement, and adaptive management approaches tailored to fragile and volatile settings. Participants will gain practical insights into how to balance immediate humanitarian needs with the strategic goal of sustainable recovery.

The course also addresses the complex coordination challenges among humanitarian actors, donors, governments, and affected communities. Participants will learn how to design effective coordination mechanisms, harmonize interventions, and ensure accountability in resource allocation and service delivery. Special attention is given to donor harmonization, localization strategies, and inter-agency collaboration to improve efficiency and impact.

Participants will develop critical understanding of risk management, conflict sensitivity, and gender-responsive programming to ensure that recovery projects do not inadvertently exacerbate existing inequalities or tensions. Through practical case studies and simulations, participants will learn how to incorporate environmental sustainability, protection principles, and inclusive design into post-crisis reconstruction programs.

A key feature of the course is its integration of resilience-building frameworks and systems thinking in humanitarian and recovery planning. Participants will explore how to transition from emergency response to recovery and development, ensuring that interventions strengthen local capacities and institutions for long-term stability.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with tools, strategies, and global best practices to plan, manage, monitor, and evaluate humanitarian and recovery programs effectively. They will emerge as leaders capable of driving transformative change in crisis-affected communities, fostering resilience, and supporting sustainable recovery outcomes.
