Course Introduction
Greenfield projects involve developing entirely new facilities, infrastructure, production assets, utilities, systems, or developments on previously undeveloped or minimally developed sites. Unlike brownfield projects, greenfield initiatives offer greater flexibility in site layout, design, construction sequencing, and technology selection, but they also require comprehensive planning for land development, infrastructure, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness from the outset.
This course provides a structured framework for planning and executing greenfield projects across their complete lifecycle, from project concept, feasibility, site selection, and business case development through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, start-up, handover, and closeout. It focuses on establishing a robust project foundation before physical implementation begins and on integrating technical, commercial, financial, operational, environmental, and stakeholder requirements.
Participants will learn how to develop greenfield project execution strategies, define scope and deliverables, establish work breakdown structures, develop integrated master schedules, plan resources, establish cost baselines, and create effective procurement and contracting strategies. Particular attention is given to front-end planning, project readiness, constructability, site development, infrastructure requirements, logistics, temporary facilities, and construction mobilisation.
Effective greenfield delivery requires strong integration between engineering disciplines, procurement teams, construction contractors, suppliers, project controls, commissioning teams, regulators, communities, and future operators. The course therefore examines interface management, design coordination, procurement planning, construction sequencing, contractor management, quality assurance, risk management, environmental and social considerations, and stakeholder coordination.
Participants will also develop practical approaches to managing cost, schedule, scope, quality, resources, risks, changes, contracts, and performance throughout project execution. The course addresses critical-path management, progress measurement, earned value concepts, cost forecasting, schedule recovery, change control, procurement tracking, contractor performance, commissioning readiness, and management reporting.
Greenfield project delivery is increasingly shaped by digital engineering, BIM, digital twins, modular construction, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, sustainability requirements, climate resilience, and low-carbon development. The course explores how these emerging approaches can be integrated into project planning and execution to improve predictability, construction productivity, asset performance, lifecycle value, and long-term operational readiness.
