Course Introduction

Green infrastructure planning has become a cornerstone of modern sustainable urban and regional development, offering nature-based solutions to address climate change, flooding, biodiversity loss, and urban heat stress. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how integrated green systems can enhance environmental resilience.

The course explores the principles of ecosystem-based planning, where natural processes are strategically incorporated into built environments. Participants will learn how green infrastructure supports water management, air quality improvement, and urban livability while reducing dependency on traditional grey infrastructure.

As cities expand rapidly, pressure on land, water, and ecological systems continues to intensify. This course equips professionals with the tools needed to design multifunctional landscapes that balance development needs with environmental protection and climate adaptation.

Participants will examine real-world case studies of green infrastructure applications such as green roofs, urban forests, wetlands restoration, permeable pavements, and ecological corridors that contribute to sustainable urban systems.

The training emphasizes spatial planning, policy integration, and technical design approaches that ensure green infrastructure is effectively embedded into urban development frameworks at local and regional scales.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to plan, evaluate, and implement green infrastructure strategies that improve resilience, enhance biodiversity, and support long-term sustainable development goals.

Duration
