Course Introduction

Green infrastructure investment has emerged as a foundational strategy for achieving sustainable urban development, climate resilience, and low-carbon economic transformation. Governments and private investors are increasingly prioritizing infrastructure systems that deliver environmental, social, and economic benefits simultaneously.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how green infrastructure projects are conceptualized, financed, structured, and implemented across different sectors. Participants will explore financing models that support renewable energy systems, sustainable transport, water management, and climate-resilient urban infrastructure.

A key focus of the program is the integration of climate finance mechanisms into infrastructure planning, including blended finance, public-private partnerships, green bonds, and multilateral development funding. These tools are essential for closing the global infrastructure financing gap.

The course also examines risk allocation, investment appraisal, and financial structuring techniques used in large-scale infrastructure projects. Participants will gain insights into how financial viability is balanced with environmental and social sustainability objectives.

Policy frameworks and regulatory environments that enable green infrastructure investment are also covered, including national climate strategies, urban planning policies, and international sustainability standards guiding infrastructure development.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, evaluate, and finance green infrastructure projects that align with global sustainability goals and attract diverse sources of climate-aligned capital.
