Course Introduction

This course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are applied in watershed and river basin management for sustainable water resource planning. It equips learners with advanced spatial hydrology and basin analysis skills.

The training focuses on integrating hydrological, topographical, and climatic datasets to analyze watershed dynamics, river flow patterns, and basin-scale water balance systems. Participants will learn how GIS supports integrated water resource management and planning.

A strong emphasis is placed on watershed delineation, runoff modeling, river morphology analysis, floodplain mapping, and sediment transport assessment. Learners will gain hands-on experience in spatial analysis techniques for river basin management systems.

The course also explores applications in flood control planning, irrigation management, drought mitigation, environmental conservation, and transboundary water governance. Participants will understand how GIS supports sustainable basin-wide decision-making processes.

Emerging technologies such as AI-driven hydrological modeling, cloud-based watershed platforms, remote sensing integration, digital twin river systems, and real-time basin monitoring tools are incorporated into the curriculum. These enhance predictive accuracy and management efficiency.

Finally, the course prepares professionals to design and implement GIS-based watershed and river basin management systems that support climate resilience, sustainable development, and integrated water governance.
