Course Introduction
Sustainable land management has become a critical global priority as pressures from population growth, climate change, urban expansion, deforestation, and land degradation continue to intensify. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide essential tools for understanding land resources, monitoring environmental change, and supporting sustainable decision-making. This course equips participants with practical and advanced skills in applying GIS for land use planning, soil conservation, ecosystem management, and sustainable resource governance across diverse landscapes and development contexts.
Effective land management requires integrated analysis of environmental, ecological, agricultural, hydrological, and socioeconomic factors. GIS enables professionals to visualize land dynamics, assess land suitability, monitor degradation processes, and design interventions that promote sustainable land use practices. Participants will learn how geospatial technologies support land administration, conservation planning, agricultural optimization, watershed management, and sustainable development strategies through spatially informed decision-making systems.
The course emphasizes practical applications of GIS in land suitability analysis, land use and land cover mapping, soil erosion modeling, watershed analysis, landscape restoration planning, and environmental impact assessment.
