Course Introduction

Sustainable infrastructure financing increasingly depends on spatial intelligence to guide investment decisions, assess risks, and ensure long-term economic, social, and environmental returns. This course introduces participants to GIS-based frameworks for evaluating infrastructure investments with sustainability and resilience considerations.

The course explores how geospatial data integrates with financial modeling, economic planning, and infrastructure asset management to support evidence-based investment decisions. Participants will learn how GIS helps identify optimal locations for infrastructure development while minimizing environmental and social risks.

A strong focus is placed on infrastructure risk assessment, spatial investment prioritization, and lifecycle cost analysis using geospatial tools. Participants will understand how to evaluate transport, energy, water, and urban infrastructure projects through spatially enabled financial models.

The program further examines how GIS supports public-private partnerships, development finance institutions, and climate-aligned investment strategies. It highlights how spatial analytics improves transparency, accountability, and efficiency in infrastructure financing systems.

Participants will also engage with advanced tools such as spatial economic modeling, infrastructure scenario simulations, and investment risk dashboards. These tools help decision-makers visualize infrastructure performance under different development and climate conditions.

Ultimately, the course equips professionals with the skills to design and manage GIS-enabled sustainable infrastructure financing systems that support resilient, inclusive, and future-ready development.
