Course Introduction

Sustainable development planning requires a balanced integration of environmental protection, economic growth, and social inclusion. Spatial data and GIS technologies provide essential tools for analyzing these interconnected dimensions to support informed planning decisions.

Geographic Information Systems enable planners and policymakers to visualize development patterns, assess resource distribution, and identify areas of vulnerability. This spatial intelligence is critical for achieving long-term sustainability goals at local, national, and global levels.

This training course introduces participants to the application of GIS in sustainable development planning, focusing on practical tools and methodologies used to support evidence-based decision-making processes across multiple sectors.

Participants will learn how to analyze land use, population dynamics, infrastructure development, and environmental constraints using spatial data to guide sustainable planning strategies and policy formulation.

The course also explores how GIS supports global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), helping organizations track progress and measure development impacts using geospatial indicators.

By the end of the training, learners will be equipped to integrate GIS into sustainable development planning processes that promote resilience, efficiency, and inclusive growth in diverse contexts.
