Course Introduction

Spatial risk assessment is a critical analytical approach used to identify, evaluate, and manage risks that vary across geographic space. These risks may include natural hazards, environmental degradation, infrastructure vulnerability, and socio-economic exposure.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide advanced tools for integrating, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data to support risk identification and decision-making. They help transform complex datasets into actionable insights for planners and decision-makers.

This training course introduces participants to GIS-based spatial risk assessment techniques, focusing on how to evaluate hazards, vulnerabilities, and exposure across different environments and sectors.

Participants will learn how to combine environmental, demographic, and infrastructure datasets to develop comprehensive spatial risk models that support planning and mitigation strategies.

The course also explores advanced spatial analysis techniques such as overlay analysis, buffering, and multi-criteria evaluation for identifying high-risk zones and prioritizing interventions.

By the end of the training, learners will be able to design GIS-based spatial risk assessment systems that support disaster management, urban planning, environmental protection, and development planning.

Duration

5 days
