Course Introduction

School mapping and education planning are critical components of ensuring equitable access to quality education services. GIS technology provides powerful tools for analyzing spatial distribution of schools, student populations, and educational resources to support evidence-based planning and policy development.

In many regions, disparities in school accessibility, infrastructure availability, and resource allocation continue to affect learning outcomes. GIS enables education planners to visualize these disparities spatially and design targeted interventions that improve equity and efficiency in education systems.

This course introduces participants to the application of GIS in education planning and school mapping. It focuses on how spatial data can be used to assess school distribution, identify underserved areas, and support strategic planning for new educational facilities and infrastructure development.

Participants will gain practical skills in mapping schools, analyzing catchment areas, and evaluating accessibility using GIS tools. The course emphasizes real-world education planning challenges such as population growth, urbanization, rural access, and resource optimization.

The training also explores advanced geospatial techniques such as spatial modeling, network analysis, and demographic forecasting to support long-term education planning. Participants will learn how to integrate census data, satellite imagery, and administrative datasets for comprehensive analysis.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to develop GIS-based education planning systems, produce school mapping reports, and support decision-making processes that improve access, equity, and quality in education delivery.
