Course Introduction
This course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support public health intelligence, disease surveillance, and health system planning. It equips learners with advanced spatial epidemiology and health analytics skills.
The training focuses on integrating GIS with health records, demographic data, mobility patterns, and environmental datasets to monitor disease spread and health outcomes. Participants will learn how spatial analysis strengthens public health decision-making and outbreak response.
A strong emphasis is placed on disease mapping, epidemic modeling, health risk assessment, and healthcare accessibility analysis. Learners will gain hands-on experience in identifying spatial patterns of diseases such as malaria, cholera, influenza, and other public health threats.
The course also explores applications in health service delivery planning, vaccination coverage mapping, emergency health response, and environmental health monitoring. Participants will understand how GIS supports evidence-based public health interventions and policy development.
Emerging technologies such as AI-driven disease prediction, real-time health surveillance dashboards, mobile health data integration, cloud-based epidemiological GIS systems, and big data health analytics are integrated into the curriculum. These tools enhance speed and accuracy in health intelligence systems.
Finally, the course prepares professionals to design and implement GIS-based public health intelligence systems that improve disease prevention, health planning, and population health outcomes in diverse environments.
