Course Introduction
Monitoring Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development indicators requires robust data systems that integrate spatial, statistical, and real-time information. GIS provides a critical framework for visualizing progress, identifying gaps, and supporting evidence-based policy decisions at national and local levels.
This course introduces participants to the use of GIS for tracking SDG indicators, national performance metrics, and development targets across sectors such as health, education, environment, infrastructure, and economic growth. It emphasizes spatial data integration for development monitoring systems.
Participants will learn how to design geospatial indicator frameworks that align with global SDG reporting standards and national development plans. The training focuses on transforming raw datasets into actionable spatial insights that support governance, planning, and accountability.
A strong focus is placed on building spatial dashboards and monitoring systems that visualize progress toward SDG targets in real time. Participants will explore how geospatial technologies improve transparency and enhance development reporting at multiple administrative levels.
The course also covers advanced tools such as cloud GIS, automated data pipelines, remote sensing integration, and AI-driven analytics. These technologies enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of SDG monitoring systems across institutions.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to develop GIS-based SDG monitoring frameworks, create indicator dashboards, and support national and international reporting processes with high-quality geospatial analysis.
