Course Introduction

Climate risks are increasingly threatening ecosystems, infrastructure, agriculture, and human livelihoods across the globe. These risks include floods, droughts, heatwaves, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events that require advanced monitoring and response systems.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide essential tools for analyzing spatial patterns of climate hazards, monitoring environmental changes, and supporting early warning systems for disaster preparedness and resilience planning.

This training course introduces participants to the application of GIS in monitoring climate risks, focusing on how geospatial data can be used to assess vulnerability, track environmental changes, and support adaptation strategies.

Participants will learn how to integrate climate datasets, satellite imagery, and socio-economic information into GIS platforms to analyze risk exposure and develop climate resilience frameworks.

The course also explores climate modeling concepts and spatial risk assessment techniques that help decision-makers understand and respond effectively to climate-related hazards.

By the end of the training, learners will be able to design GIS-based climate risk monitoring systems that support adaptation planning, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development strategies.

Duration
