Course Introduction

Humanitarian logistics plays a vital role in ensuring timely delivery of aid, supplies, and services during disasters, conflicts, and complex emergencies. Effective coordination depends on accurate spatial information and real-time decision-making supported by modern geospatial technologies.

GIS has become an essential tool in humanitarian logistics by enabling responders to map affected populations, optimize supply routes, and identify priority areas for intervention. It improves efficiency, reduces response time, and enhances coordination among multiple agencies.

This training course introduces participants to the integration of GIS in humanitarian logistics operations, focusing on preparedness, response, and recovery phases of disaster management and emergency aid delivery systems.

Participants will learn how to use spatial data to plan distribution networks for food, water, medical supplies, and shelter materials in crisis-affected regions while minimizing delays and operational bottlenecks.

The course also explores global humanitarian frameworks and standards, including coordination mechanisms used by UN agencies, NGOs, and emergency response teams in complex logistical environments.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to design and manage GIS-based logistics systems that improve the speed, accuracy, and accountability of humanitarian operations in diverse crisis contexts.

Duration

5 days
