Course Introduction

GIS for Humanitarian and Development Programs Training Course is designed to equip participants with advanced geospatial skills for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating humanitarian and development interventions using Geographic Information Systems.

Humanitarian and development operations require accurate spatial data for effective response planning, resource allocation, and impact assessment. GIS provides powerful tools for mapping vulnerable populations, infrastructure, and service delivery systems in crisis and development contexts.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in disaster mapping, needs assessment, population analysis, and program targeting using GIS tools and spatial datasets. The training emphasizes real-world humanitarian and development applications.

The course also explores integration of GIS with mobile data collection, remote sensing, and real-time dashboards to support rapid decision-making in emergencies and long-term development programs. Participants will learn how to visualize humanitarian needs geographically.

Special attention is given to vulnerability mapping, accessibility analysis, camp planning, and service delivery optimization. Participants will develop skills to support efficient humanitarian response and sustainable development planning.

Ultimately, this course empowers learners with essential GIS skills for evidence-based humanitarian action, development programming, and spatial decision-making in complex operational environments.
