Course Introduction

Human mobility analysis has become a critical field in understanding how people move within and across cities, regions, and countries. GIS provides powerful tools to capture, visualize, and analyze movement patterns, enabling researchers and planners to make data-driven decisions in transportation, urban development, and public policy.

With rapid urbanization and increasing population density, cities face growing challenges related to congestion, accessibility, migration, and infrastructure demand. GIS-based human mobility analysis helps to uncover spatial-temporal movement patterns that are essential for sustainable urban planning and service delivery.

This course introduces participants to the principles and applications of GIS in analyzing human mobility data derived from GPS, mobile phone records, transportation networks, and social media sources. It emphasizes how spatial data can be transformed into actionable insights about population movement behavior.

Participants will develop practical skills in mobility data processing, spatial analysis, flow mapping, and network analysis. The course focuses on real-world applications such as transport optimization, migration studies, emergency evacuation planning, and smart city development.

The training also explores advanced methods including big data analytics, machine learning for movement prediction, real-time tracking systems, and geospatial artificial intelligence. These technologies are transforming how human mobility is understood and managed in modern societies.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to analyze complex mobility datasets, generate spatial movement models, and support decision-making processes in urban planning, transportation systems, and population studies.
