Course Introduction

Groundwater is one of the most vital natural resources supporting drinking water supply, agriculture, industry, and ecosystem sustainability. However, increasing demand, pollution, and climate variability are placing significant pressure on groundwater systems worldwide.

GIS technology provides a powerful framework for groundwater resource assessment by integrating hydrogeological data, remote sensing imagery, field measurements, and spatial modeling techniques. It enables scientists and planners to visualize subsurface water systems effectively.

This course introduces participants to the application of GIS in groundwater assessment, focusing on aquifer mapping, groundwater recharge estimation, contamination analysis, and sustainable water resource management strategies.

Participants will learn how to collect, manage, and analyze hydrogeological datasets using GIS tools, combining spatial and non-spatial data for effective groundwater monitoring and decision-making processes.

The training also explores advanced techniques such as groundwater modeling, remote sensing for aquifer detection, geostatistical analysis, and climate impact assessment on groundwater systems using modern geospatial tools.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with practical skills to assess groundwater availability, quality, and sustainability using GIS for informed water resource planning and management.
