Course Introduction
This course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are applied in groundwater modeling, assessment, and sustainable aquifer management. It equips learners with advanced hydrogeological and spatial analysis skills.
The training focuses on integrating geological, hydrological, and geospatial datasets to simulate groundwater flow, recharge patterns, and aquifer dynamics. Participants will learn how GIS supports evidence-based groundwater resource planning and management.
A strong emphasis is placed on aquifer mapping, groundwater potential zone identification, recharge estimation, and contamination risk assessment. Learners will gain hands-on experience in spatial modeling techniques for groundwater systems.
The course also explores applications in water supply planning, irrigation management, drought mitigation, environmental impact assessment, and urban groundwater sustainability. Participants will understand how GIS supports long-term groundwater security.
Emerging technologies such as AI-based groundwater prediction models, satellite gravity data (GRACE) analysis, cloud-based hydrogeological platforms, 3D aquifer modeling, and real-time groundwater monitoring systems are integrated into the curriculum.
Finally, the course prepares professionals to design and implement GIS-based groundwater modeling systems that support sustainable water resource management, climate adaptation, and environmental resilience.
